ERASMUS
Everything (or almost everything) you should know about the Erasmus program
Erasmus+ is the mobility program supported and financed by the European Union, which allows University students to spend a period of study abroad in a University of another EU country, with a financial contribution and with the opportunity to follow courses, take exams and use the available facilities without paying registration fees. The educational activities (exams, internships) carried out during the Erasmus program are then recognized, both in terms of credits and ratings, by the University of origin.
The program Erasmus+ allows students to live cultural experiences abroad, to see new higher education systems, to improve the knowledge of another language and to meet young people from other countries, actively participating in the construction of a more united Europe. .
For all the information on how to participate in Erasmus, please refer to the news section.
With the Erasmus+ program, each student can receive several times the Erasmus grant for a maximum of 12 months for each course of study, regardless of the number and of the type of mobility (for study purposes and/or for trainee purposes).
For students enrolled in courses of a single-cycle Master of science, the maximum number of months is 24. .
The duration of the Erasmus grant is established in the Notice of Selection for each destination and varies from a minimum of 90 days (3 months) to a maximum of 360 days (12 months). The period is in any case conditioned by the start and end dates of the courses and/or activities at the different University locations.
The period of study abroad must be selected between 1 June 2016 and 30 September 2017 .
It is mandatory that the students winning the fellowship have a good knowledge of the foreign language in which the courses will be taught at the host University. Such knowledge of language must be necessarily documented. Where expressly indicated, students must comply with the type of certification required by the host University. In this sense, students are required to check what is indicated in the tables related to the exchange agreement activated by the department and attached to the Notice of Selection; as well as to check for any changes on the web page of the University website "Info partners Universities" and on the websites of individual European Universities.
Alternatively, the knowledge of language must be demonstrated through the following documents:
- certification issued by agencies and/or international institutions (e.g., IELTS, Trinity, TOEFL, DELF, DELE, ZD, ZDfB);
- level certificate issued by the University Language Centre (CLA) as a result of a placement test;
- level certificate issued by the CLA at the end of courses in French, German or Spanish, freely offered to the winners of Erasmus students;
- certificate of language proficiency issued by the foreign University at which the student has done an Erasmus exchange.
The University Language Centre, will freely release a certificate of knowledge of language to students who request it (for the languages ENGLISH - FRENCH - GERMAN - SPANISH). Students enrolled in a Master of Science degree course belonging to the class LM37, or already in possession of a Batchelor first degree L11, are exempted from the presentation of the above documents.
In addition, as a support to students at the start and after the signing of the contract, the European Commission provides online language courses and the CLA organizes, during the period June-July, free intensive courses in French, Spanish and German.
Moreover, the University Federico II organizes, with the financial support of the European Commission, free language courses in French, Spanish and German for students winners of an Erasmus scholarship. At the end of these courses the students will be able to take the examination for the certification of level.
The courses are organized by the CLA and are held at the Historical Center facilities.
The courses last 60 hours and are held between the months of June and September. The course schedule will be announced by the University Language Centre.

Before the departure, every Erasmus student must be in possession of a detailed plan of activities - called Learning Agreement for Studies - to be performed abroad, approved and signed by both the promoter teacher and the hosting Institute.
In particular, in the Learning Agreement there will be indicated the courses that the student must attend abroad, the relative number of purchasable credits and Italian exams that will be recognized. The learning agreement is also required if you go abroad to carry out thesis work, practice or an internship. The plan could still be changed during the Erasmus period.
With this term it is intended the application form for the enrollment at the host University as an Erasmus student. As soon as he/she is declared as the winner of an Erasmus program, each student is obliged to inquire about the procedures and timing for registration, which vary considerably between the Universities.
More and more Universities provide online registration. When a shipping is requested, it will be provided by the student, unless a different indication is given by the foreign University.
Some Universities directly send to selected students the instructions and/or forms. Excluding some University of Northern Europe, that set deadlines already in April, most of the deadlines are in the months May and June.
The host Universities may include special admission requirements, such as a certified knowledge of the language in which courses are taught. The informational material coming from the partner Universities will be published on the University website.
It is the responsibility of the winner of the Erasmus contribution to contact as soon as possible the relevant offices of the foreign University to search for housing.
Many foreign Universities have reserved accommodation for Erasmus students and to this end they usually have a request form (accommodation form) that the student is required to complete and return as soon as possible.
It is very important to respect the deadlines set by the host University, this is the only way to be sure to receive accommodation. Otherwise, the student must supply for his/her accommodation independently (it is advisable to contact the host institution for assistance and information). For big Universities, the search for accommodation is a task totally assigned to the student.
Before leaving the winning student must sign a contract (grant agreement) at the International Relations Office in the dates and according to the procedures that will be published on the website.
In order to facilitate mobility, the European Commission annually delivers contributions to student mobility grants, essentially intended to integrate the costs of the stay abroad of the student. The number of Erasmus mobility grants financed by the Community contribution will be determined on the basis of the financial support granted by the national Erasmus+ agency. The monthly fee of the scholarship is different depending on the country of destination. The European Commission has divided countries into three groups based on the cost of living :
Group 1 Cost of living: high |
Denmark, Ireland, France, Italy, Austria, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland | € 280 |
Group 2 Cost of living: medium |
Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland, Turkey | € 230 |
Group 3 Cost of living: low |
Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Macedonia | € 230 |
There is also an additional monthly fee, set at € 200, for students in disadvantaged socio-economic conditions. The identification of the beneficiaries will be made on the basis of the ISEE presented by Erasmus scholarship winning students, for the enrollment in the 2017/18 academic year. The monthly amounts of the Erasmus grant will be integrated by the University (for the 2015/16 students received € 2.5 per day) and, when available, even with the contribution of the Ministry of Education, University and Research in support of international mobility (for 2015/16 the students received € 7 per day for the countries of the group 1 and € 6 per day for the countries of groups 2 and 3).
To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must have passed/completed at least one of the activities planned in the learning agreement (exams, internships, thesis work) for each semester spent abroad. If this condition is not fulfilled, he/she will have to return the entire grant if already perceived.As a certification of the completed activities, it will be consulted the Transcript of Records (certificate of exams awarded by the partner Universities) or alternatively, for the internship and the thesis work, what is declared by the teacher who followed the work done by the student. The Erasmus study period cannot be less than 90 days (continuous and documented by appropriate host institution certification) worth a full refund of the scholarship and the loss of the status of Erasmus student .
The Erasmus fellows, who fulfill the prescribed requirements, may also participate in supplementary grants for international mobility of A.Di.S.U "Federico II".
The Erasmus+ National Agency annually provides additional funds for disabled students winning Erasmus grants. The granting of such contributions is the subject of a separate request which will be made according to the times and within the terms set out by the National Agency and will be promptly disclosed by the University.
The host University will not require the payment of any kind of tax or University contribution rate for enrollment, exam registration, use of laboratories and/or libraries. It may, however, require payment of small fees (e.g. for costs of insurance, student organizations and the use of various materials, such as photocopiers, laboratory products, etc.) on equal terms with local students. It is understood that students must be up to date with the payment of fees at the University of Naples Federico II. Erasmus students continue to receive the full amount of any scholarships or national borrowing they hold.
For health coverage while abroad in other EU countries, in principle it is sufficient for Italian citizens to bring along the European Health Card, which allows a limited health care coverage for the necessary care. For detailed information on the rights and obligations in the field of healthcare abroad please consult the website: http://www.salute.gov.it/ or contact your local health authority.
The student must immediately go at the Erasmus Office of the host University and fill in the Certificate of Attendance in "Arrival" box and make it to fax or mail to the International Office. The student also has the Learning Agreement to be approved by the host, if it is not already the case, and has to send it by fax or by mail, to the International Office.
The student who, for any valid educational reasons, wants to extend his/her stay at the host University must send, by fax, to the International Relations Office, promptly and, in any case, a month before the end of the period of stay established in the contract, the extension form duly completed and signed at least in two sections: the request of the student/host University approval. The authorization to the extension will be considered as issued only after the approval by the promoter teacher. The student can extend the mobility provided that the total period does not exceed 12 months and does not go beyond 30.09.2017.
The extension period shall not in any case be financed.
It is the document certifying the results, which, at the end of the period of study, the host institution must deliver the Erasmus student or send to the University Federico II. On the basis of this document the procedures for the recognition of the period of study abroad will start.
The student, within seven days after his return in Italy, under penalty of forfeiture of the status of "Erasmus student" and with consequent recovery of the loan granted by the University, has to deliver to the International Relations Office the Certificate of attendance indicating the start and end dates of the Erasmus period, the Learning Agreement with any changes signed by the host University, the Transcript of Records or, in case of theses, internships or other practical activities, a certificate stating the work done.
For the student who has carried out an internship in a company abroad, the certificate must also prove that period, unless the same has not been issued by the company. The Erasmus student mobility period is expressed in days, and the duration is calculated according to the 360-day business year; Therefore, every month, regardless of its length, is considered of 30 days. In the case of a mobility period not corresponding to a integer number of months, the financial contribution will be calculated, beyond the ninetieth day of activities, by multiplying the number of days in the month(s) incomplete to 1/30 of the monthly unit cost (€ 230 or 280 depending on the destination country).
At the return of the student, on the basis of the dates indicated on the Certificate of Attendance (to be delivered within seven days after the end of the Erasmus period), the number of days funded by the scholarship will be calculated, together with possible amounts to be given back.
It is pointed out that the amounts owed will be paid on the bank accounts of the students in two tranches: a first tranche corresponding to the number of months expected minus one; a second tranche, related to the remaining month or part of it will be paid to the student at the end of the study period and after the delivery of the required documentation.
