• Place: Industrial Engineering Department- Seminars room, 6th floor, Piazzale Tecchio 80. Each course will last three hours from 10am to 1pm.
• Pedagogy: Classroom lecture and interactive discussions.
• 3 credits (CFU), Time load: 15 h.
• Spoken Language: Italian/English.
Contents
The course will provide an introduction to green economy and its impact on the management of engineering projects and the development of more environmental friendly products through a series of workshops and seminars. The course will introduce students to environmental and societal issues related to Climate Change and adoption of Corporate Social Responsibility by large and small companies.The green economy and management challenges will be framed using different theoretical perspectives inspired to theory of Complex Systems, Resilience, and Collective Intelligence. Examples and applications will be drawn from different themes including the development of Carbon Free Economy, Smart Cities, eco-sustainable ICT infrastructures and the new energy -aware networking, computing models, protocols, architectures,Green Supply chain and Zero Waste Factory. Students will also be introduced to several methods to evaluate projects and products using environmental impact criteria based on traditional and less traditional methodologies such as Cost/Benefit Analysis, Network Analysis, fuzzy multi attribute decision making, and Agent-Based Simulation.
COURSE SCHEDULE AND TOPICS
Day | Speaker | Topics |
6/06 |
G.Zollo (Università di Napoli Federico II) |
This seminar provides an introduction to the challenge of sustainable economic development. The sustainability challenge is presented in the framework of complex systems and complexity science. Several cases of societal collapse will be presented and discussed to show that collapse is often the result of poor management of environmental resources coupled with the building of unnecessary complexity in institutions and organizations |
08/06 | G.Ferruzzi, P. Rippa (Università di Napoli Federico II) |
This seminar provides an introduction to the Smart Grid, new electric infrastructuresable to optimize energy consumption, to improve the efficiency of the traditional electrical system, to increase the renewable energy development, to create business opportunities. The seminar explores the three major systems: the smart infrastructure system, the smart management system, and the smart energy market. Various management objectives are explored, such as improving energy efficiency, profiling demand, maximizing utility, reducing cost, and controlling emission. A case experience of an innovative local startup will underline the contribution of the energy sector to thenew firm creation and, consequently, to the growth and economic development of the Country. |
18/06 | G.Bruno and C.Piccolo (Università di Napoli Federico II) |
Introduction, Fundamental definitions, Green issues in internal and external operations management, Green logistics strategy, KPI for Green Supply Chain Management, Mapping and re-engineering of processes to improve Energy Efficiency Operations, Case study and methodology application. |
26/06 | I. Quinto Università di Napoli Parthenope) |
This seminar provides an introduction to the main issues, organizational and societal implications arising from the emergence of the sustainability paradigm. In particular, it focuses on the definition and analysis of the Green Supply Chain Management to better understand its characteristics, objectives and implications. The use of the green criteria in the Supplier Selection Problem is analyzed as driver of the improvement of the whole supply chain. Case study and methodological application are presented. |
27/06 | A. Castiglione (Università degli Studi di Salerno) |
Energy consumption and the concomitant Green House Gas (GHG) emissions are becoming major issues in modernindustrial society. In this scenario, current high performance network infrastructures (routers, switches, line cards, signal regenerators, optical amplifiers, etc.) have reached huge band width capacity but their development has not been compensated at the same rate as for their energy consumption. Analogously, the ever-increasing data volumes (Big Data)to be processed, stored, and accessed every day in modern datacenters result in an energy demand growing a faster and faster pace. The main objective of this lecture is to present the current challenges and research trends for eco-sustainable ICT infrastructures and the new energy-aware networking and computing models, protocols, architectures, techniques and paradigms that optimize the use of energy. |
EXPECTED OUTCOME
After the workshop, the participants should:
• develop an understanding of the systemic character of environmental sustainability and its relationship with engineering projects;
• evaluate and define green economy KPI in distributed systems such as energy production and distribution and supply chains;
• understand the role and impact of digital smart technologies on the implementation of green economic systems.
