Two-phase flow heat transfer: theory, measurements, predictive methods and innovative geometries for heat transfer enhancement
Lecturer
Luca Viscito, PhD
Department of Industrial Engineering, Università di Napoli Federico II
Goals and topics
This course aims to provide an introductive insight of the phenomena related to the two-phase heat transfer, which is a common issue for those involved in the design of heat exchangers in vapor compression cycles, power plants and heat spreader systems. The course is divided into theory and practice activities.
Theory: pool boiling, flow boiling, flow pattern maps, film condensation, in-tube condensation. Introduction of the most quoted prediction methods for heat transfer and pressure drop in two-phase flows. Innovative tube surfaces for the heat transfer enhancement.
Practice: Experiments at the Refrigeration Laboratory for the evaluation of the heat transfer coefficient in a smooth horizontal tube.
Final evaluation
Discussion concerning the laboratory experience
