The Department

The Department of Industrial Engineering (DII www.dii.unina.it) started its activities on January 1, 2013 and was born from the confluence of professors and researchers belonging to the dissolved departments: Energy, Applied Thermal Fluid Dynamics and Environmental conditioning (DETEC), Aerospace Engineering (DIAS), Engineering and Management (DIEG), Naval Engineering (DIN), Mechanics and Energetics (DiME).

With reference to the ministerial decree 29 July 2011 n. 336, the Department is in the area 09 (Industrial and Information Engineering ) in three consecutive macro-sectors: 09A - mechanical, aerospace and naval engineering , 09B - manufacturing engineering, plant engineering and management and 09C - Energy, Thermo - Mechanics and nuclear Engineering, but receives organic and qualifying contributions from sectors 09 / E4, measurements, and from sectors belonging to the areas: 01, Mathematics and Computer Science, sector 01 / A6 - Operational Research, 08 Civil Engineering and Architecture, section 08 / A3 - Infrastructures and Transport Systems, Appraisal and Evaluation, 012 of Legal Sciences, sector IUS / 01 - Private Law, and 013 of Economics and Statistics, sector 13 / D1 - Statistics. The affinity and contiguity of skills and knowledge of these sectors, are widely demonstrated by the extensive experience of scientific and educational collaborations in research projects in higher education programs, in graduate schools and on college master.

The Department intends to:

  • contribute to the training of professionals of high qualification for the different sectors of the Industrial Engineering, with strong links with the world of work;
  • promote, enhance and support the research in industrial engineering, placing itself as an active and proactive referent in the national and international scene;
  • contribute to the cultural, social and economic development of the surroundings, consolidating itself as a reference point for the productive companies;
  • promote technology transfer and innovation, including the economic exploitation of research results;
  • promote, organize and support educational activities of the university level in Industrial Engineering;
  • organize transparently and efficiently its management and its operation, using as widely as possible the organizational and managerial autonomy;
  • promote actions aimed to the acquisition of external funding and to the strengthening of relationships with companies.

The Department of Industrial Engineering works by developing its human capital, taking as a management tool the assessment of the quality of teaching, research and services, as well as its management organization. It aims to place itself as an attractor of human and financial resources on the national and international scene.

As for the training activity, the Department is among the promoters of the 'Scuola Politecnica e delle Scienze di Base' of the University of Naples, and supports the following courses of study:

Batchelor's Degree: - Aerospace Engineering - Managerial Engineering for Logistic and Production - Mechanical engineering - Naval Engineering

Master of Science: - Aerospace Engineering - Managerial Engineering - Mechanical Engineering for Energy and the Environment - Mechanical Engineering for the Design and Production - Naval Engineering.

Moreover, the Department contributes to the Master of Science in Energy Engineering, at the University of Sannio.

The Department hosts the administrative and teaching offices of the following 2nd level Master courses - Automotive Engineering (Uninauto) - Engineering Management for Public Safety and the 1st level International Master in Systems Innovation and Management.

The Department supports the Doctorate School in Industrial Engineering and the PhD course in Industrial Engineering, which has three curricula: Energetic and Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace and Naval Engineering and Quality Engineering and Management. In addition, the Department participates in the PhD program in Energy (whose administrative headquarters are at the University of Palermo).
